It’s been over 20 years since our practice act was updated. The industry has changed. AIT was added in rule but not supported in law, more acupuncturists have employees and deserve to have superivsory rights, and insurance won’t pay for E&M codes. These are all being addressed in our proposed legislation.
Florida Acupuncturists have an incredible Practice Act.

Not all States provide acupuncturists the same opportunities to thrive and practice, but here in Florida the scene is sunnier than elsewhere.
Florida Acupuncturists are granted direct access to patient care. Meaning no MD referral is needed, unless required by an insurance plan. Other states, like TX, IL and VA require an MD diagnosis or referral for access your care.
Florida Acupuncturists are not prohibited from performing acupuncture injection therapies, like in AK, CA, DC, IA, MN, NJ, NC, and WY.
Florida Acupuncturists are not prohibited from using non-ionizing laser stimulation for acupuncture care, as seen in KS and KY.
In Florida, Acupuncture services are known to be safe and effective, so affordable professional liability limits are set at 10k/30k, unlike GA – 100k/300k, ND – 250k/500k, and PA – 500k/1,000,000. – ouch…
Florida remains a welcoming and desirable place to build a practice and is among states with the least red-tape, licensing costs, and other barriers to access and care.
Even with all these positives – there is room for improvement.
Goals
1. Protect Acupuncture Injection Therapy (AIT) by inserting language in our statute that makes it part of law instead of rule.
2. Establish Evaluation & Management exams as part of our scope of practice. Insurance currently denies E&M codes
3. Establish supervision for Licensed Acupuncturists to bill for servvices by employees.
4. Authorize CEUs be given for practice management courses taken
5. Allow out of state practitioners to give demonstrations when teaching a class.
